Hello, ACHS families!
Year 12 Students who are wanting gain entry into University and to some TAFE courses are advised to sit for an SAT or an STAT entrance test.
Different universities prefer either an SAT or an STAT. The “Good Universities Guide” explains what courses are available at all Australian universities, TAFEs and training colleges. It also explains what are the entry requirements for those institutions. (See https://www.gooduniversitiesguide.com.au/ )
Most ACHS students who have gained entrance to tertiary institutions have taken the following measures:
Completed the ACE Year 12 Certificate course.
Do either an SAT or STAT.
The SAT
The SAT is a standardized test widely used for tertiary (University, TAFE etc.) admissions. It was first introduced in 1926, and its name and scoring have changed several times, being originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, then the Scholastic Assessment Test, then the SAT I: Reasoning Test, then the SAT Reasoning Test, and now simply the SAT.
The SAT is owned and published by the College Board, a private, for-profit corporation in the United States. It is developed and administered on behalf of the College Board by the Educational Testing Service.[3] The test is intended to assess a student's readiness for tertiary study.
The current SAT, introduced in 2016, takes 3 hours to finish plus 50 minutes for the SAT essay if required. Possible scores on the SAT range from 400 to 1600, combining test results from two 800-point sections: Mathematics and Critical reading and Writing.
On March 5, 2014, the College Board announced that a redesigned version of the SAT would be administered for the first time in 2016. The exam reverted to the 1600-point scale, the essay was made optional, and students now have 3 hours to take the exam plus 50 additional minutes to complete the essay. Students can find a practice SAT on the Khan Academy website. This is free of charge. (Find it at https://www.khanacademy.org/sat )
The SAT can be attempted several times. Your state’s Tertiary Admission Centre (TAC) will take your student’s best scores for his or her admission to tertiary courses.
The STAT - Special Tertiary Admissions Test
The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is a two-hour aptitude test that demonstrates your student’s capability of undertaking future tertiary study. The test results help institutions decide which applicants to consider for their courses.
The STAT is an aptitude test that evaluates verbal and quantitative reasoning. Specific curriculum knowledge is not required.
There are two different STAT tests:
STAT Multiple Choice test
STAT Written English test
